Shoes

We're down to 22 days until departure, and I think the one thing that we are 100% certain about is our shoes. There are a few more not in the picture, but these are our favorites.
It will probably also be fun to see a good before/after of how these guys look around April 2017.
(Not pictured: Birkenstock's, Tevas, North Face, slippers, and trusty shower flip flops)

45 days, questionnaires, and final dentist appointments

45 days! It's hard to believe how quickly everything is starting to go by, but there it is.

Alexis had her final, final, final dentist appointment this week, so we both have everything finished and turned in and perfect.

We also just submitted our questionnaires about homestay preferences and language learning. The TL; DR is that we had to write a strange version of a personals ad to our future homestay families, and that Arabic is going to be difficult, but at least we'll know Arabic.

Counting down

Obviously we haven't actually, you know, experienced Peace Corps yet, but I feel like I understand why everyone says that the hardest part is waiting.

We have 51 days left, and I'm sure they'll fly by, because the last 50 were gone in a blink, but it feels like forever. It still feels like we have so much to do, but then there's also hardly anything left for us to do. If we weren't so excited, I would call it a mess, but the anticipation gives us something to hold on to. I also get the feeling our friends are just ready for us to go so we stop bringing every conversation back around to Peace Corps, Morocco, packing, or any of the other subjects that we've been talking about with more and more regularity.

If anyone wants a nice giggle at how challenging the Darija (might) be for us, look at this link. It'll be fine, right?

Getting there.

Hi again,

We're so close to departure! Yet so very, very far away. 82 days means a few different things.

The pre-packing process has begun, which is terrifying. Do we need this book in the next two months? What about the next two years? I DON'T KNOW - I CAN'T DECIDE. You'd be surprised how often a conversation like this can happen.

Overall though, everything is going as smoothly as we could hope. For those out there dying to ask about Ebola: there have still been zero confirmed cases in Morocco. Could that change? Absolutely. But right now, everything is still just as we had heard about it before. January 12th (+/- a day), we're coming for you!

It's nice to have our last American autumn. I say "American" because I'm sure there are autumns everywhere, but not all of them involve pumpkin spice latte's and watching The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

We've continued using the wonderful discounts for Peace Corps Volunteers - special shout outs to Teva and Columbia.

Happy October!

Alexis

April 2014 - 8 months and 4 days to go!

Well, here we are.  Another life adventure, another blog.
I'm Alexis and my husband is Toby.  We're getting ready for Peace Corps Morocco, departing January 12th, 2015.  We're currently living and working Washington, DC.  We're also both redheads, so that's a thing.

We'll try to update this as often as is needed until we go, then I promise to try to post sometimes while we're in Morocco. (MOROCCO!)

Ask us things.  Tell us things.  Are you doing Peace Corps Morocco? Tell us!
