People of Taounate

There are some amazing people that live in Taounate, and they're all amazing for different reasons. This is our attempt to highlight the awesome people we interact with regularly.

Karim
(Yes, we've used this picture before, but it's a good one)

How we know him: Originally, he was a friend of our host-cousin, Anass', but since Anass has moved, we've become really close. He is working on his English, but his French is great (and obviously. his darija). He helps us with things like finding someone to do home repairs, we buy our olive oil from his family (if anyone wants some super fresh, high-quality olive oil, let us know), he cuts Toby's hair, and he watches Enib when we're gone.

What he does with the rest of his time: He's a barber in the Village (downtown area), and he's also an artist (mainly painting and drawing, we believe).

Otman
(Action shot of him cutting a half kilo of pumpkin.)

How we know him: He's our favorite produce vendor. His booth is in the daily marche and he has a pretty wide selection. He was the first person to say we were Taounati (from Taounate), which was very welcoming. He is also willing to accommodate our weird American requests. While most people would make us buy a full kilo of something (like avocados, which get expensive on our budget), he let's us just buy one or two of something at a time. This was particularly entertaining the time we asked for one tomato.

What he does with the rest of his time: Already stated, but he sells produce. He also looks out for a number of the stray cats in the area and seems to know everyone in town.
